The Woolly Mammoth, a close relative of modern elephants, roamed the Earth during the Ice Age, between 400,000 to 4,000 years ago. Covered in a thick, hairy coat, these magnificent creatures survived cold climates while grazing on grasses. Herds of woolly mammoths were spread across northern Europe, Asia, and North America.

History:
First scientifically described in 1799, the woolly mammoth was originally placed in the same genus as the modern Asian elephant. In 1828, it was given its own genus, Mammuthus, and since then, many species have been identified, though only Mammuthus primigenius is commonly referred to as the woolly mammoth. These creatures are known from thousands of skeletons, tusks, teeth, and even mummified specimens.

Scientific Name:
Mammuthus primigenius

Characteristics:
This beautifully detailed woolly mammoth toy captures the essence of these majestic creatures, featuring their signature curved tusks, small ears, trunk, and the iconic coat of brown hair. Similar in size to the modern African elephant, the adult mammoth could stand over 11 feet tall and walked on four sturdy legs.

Size:
The woolly mammoth figure measures 5.5 inches long and 5 inches high, making it a perfect addition to any collection of prehistoric animals.
