The 164th Infantry Regiment was the first US Army unit to offensively engage the enemy--in either theater--in WWII, when they reinforced the Marines at Guadalcanal on 13 October 1942, earning the NAVY Presidential Unit Citation. This book follows the unit from the early days in the North Dakota National Guard, through Guadalcanal, Bougainville (Northern Solomons), Leyte, Cebu and other Southern Philippine locations, to their training for the invasion of Japan. The publisher, 164th Infantry Association of the United States of America, also prints a newsmagazine and, 70 years after their historic battles at Guadalcanal, still holds annual reunions.
