"This log Cabin had no particular historical significance until Theodore Roosevelt became the 26th President of the United States. By this time the building had stood abandoned for a time and been sold and remodeled at least twice, leaving gaps in its history. The presidential log cabin story line became significant with President Abraham Lincoln rising to political greatness from early life in just such a cabin. Although, in Theodore Roosevelt's case, it was his choice to live in this cabin and for relatively short periods of time while regaining his health, ranching, hunting, and writing in North Dakota." -taken from the Preface
