Swiss artist Karl Bodmer accompanied German Prince Maximilian on an expedition up the Missouri River in 1833, spending the winter of 1833-34 at Fort Clark, the American Fur Company outpost in present-day North Dakota. A collection of Bodmer's prints are on permanent display at the North Dakota Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center, Washburn, North Dakota, which also features an extensive Fort Clark exhibit.
