This late-Victorian-style home was built by businessman Asa Fischer in 1884. In 1983 the stat bought the house for $5,000 and later that year Governor Elic C, D, Shortridge and family moved in. Twenty executives subsequently occupied the home.
The last occupant was Governor John E. Davis. In 1875 the State Historical Society assumed control and renovation and restoration followed. In 1975 the home was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
