It is the only surviving building where meetings were held in preparation for statehood. After narrowly escaping demolition in the 1980s, the courthouse has been undergoing restoration ever since. Today, this beautiful building houses a state civics museum. You’ll be charmed by its Gothic Revival architecture and pressed metal interior—the most complete collection of pressed tin in the state and worth seeing. And don’t forget to check out the Vault Library’s original ledgers.
In the civics exhibit, explore meticulously restored rooms and learn about the experiences of North Dakotans during the state’s early days as they built lives and livelihoods, sought justice, and participated in community life.
